After three and a half years, Dr Shaheed is saying farewell to Warren

Saying goodbye is never easy.  

But after three and a half years of dedicated service to the Warren Community, well respected team member, Dr Choudury Shaheed, is planning to leave his permanent position at the end of June. 

Since arriving in November 2015, Dr Shaheed has been the backbone of the RaRMS Health Warren practice working as a full time GP, whilst also providing regular on-call VMO services at the Warren MPS.

Dr Shaheed has enjoyed living and working in the local community, meeting and treating many wonderful people. He has become known for his caring nature and focus on patients’ medical needs but also the lasting relationships he has made throughout his time in Warren.

Dr Shaheed said

“It is with great sorrow that I announce my departure from Warren.  It has been a journey where I have made many friends and made a special connection with the community.  The time I have spent here has been truly unforgettable.  During my time here, I have felt privileged to have helped the community in the past three and a half years.  In particular, the highlights of my time here have been setting up a skin cancer clinic, and a focus on chronic disease management - Diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and emphysema etc.  I enjoyed working here.  I would like to thank the RaRMS staff for their excellent support.  It has been a pleasure to work with the RaRMS staff and I would also like to thank the Warren MPS staff for their support.”

RaRMS Health Warren, Practice Manager Dympna McMullen said “On behalf of the RaRMS Health Warren team, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Shaheed for his service and commitment over the past three and a half years to the health of our Warren community.  It has been a pleasure to come to work and have a pleasant and professional Doctor to work alongside each day.  We wish Dr Shaheed all the best for his return to his Sydney life and his beautiful young family.  I believe we have taught him some good survival tricks from the Bush.  All the best!”

At this stage Dr Shaheed will be available for appointments up until the 28th June. Over the coming weeks Dr Shaheed will be handing over the care of his regular patients to Dr Chandraratne and Dr Jesrani who will both continue to work in the RaRMS Health Warren practice.

RaRMS has commenced the difficult task of finding a suitable replacement for Dr Shaheed, with that job made more problematic given the big shoes that the new candidate will be asked to fill, and the ongoing shortage of GP/VMOs across rural and remote Australia.

During the recruitment process, RaRMS will work with all relevant stakeholders including the WNSW Local Health District, the Warren Shire Council, the Remote Vocational Training Scheme, the NSW Rural Doctors Network, the Western NSW Primary Health Network and others who may be able to assist with the attraction of a suitable candidate.

“It was fantastic to welcome Dr Shaheed into Warren three and a half years ago, and it has been great to see his passion, dedication and commitment to his patients and the local community since then.  Whilst in Warren, Dr Shaheed invested considerable time and energy in completing his formal GP qualification (FRACGP), obtaining his Professional Diploma of Dermoscopy and developing other important clinical skills, which have benefited his patients.  We sincerely wish Dr Shaheed and his family all the best for the future, and we hope to see Dr Shaheed in rural NSW, if not Warren, in future.  Thank you Dr Shaheed!”
